Jan 15- Jan 22: Weeks left 3

Details, Details, Details! This week really came together, every pun intended. We worked hard on what needed to be assembled and Appa worked hard at keeping the floor from floating away.

We glued all the little detail pieces onto the chest piece. I really makes the whole thing look Amazing! We were able to put a frosty piece of plastic and place it where the light goes to diffuse the light a little.  I tried it on and it fits great! I can get in and out of it, by myself if needed, and it doesn’t impede my mobility too much.

We also started gluing the boot covers and molding it where they go. More details need to be put on this. It’s working though. Slowly but surely it is getting done.

I also found myself under the very tedious task of making, cutting, glueing all the finger segments onto the gloves.  If you have never waited for glue to dry and set, you don’t know what boredom is.  When it’s on the glove however, it really looks awesome!

This next week, I have the hefty task of glue and assembling EVERYTHING! I want to be able to put everything on and make sure it fits and works before I start painting everything.  The con is less than a month away and I’m really starting to sweat. Good thoughts for me friends.

Dec 11-Dec 18 Weeks left-9

As the holidays approach, I’m finding less and less time for cosplay construction and more and more time for shopping.  It will soon flip (and probably give me whiplash) but until then I see how many weeks left and how much of the to do list there is and I’m starting to sweat a little.

This week, I finished the Cyberman “collar” and made the appropriate file for it to be cut out.  I’m having this outsourced to a friend who knows what they’re doing to help time and skill level.  Let this be a lesson: It is okay to ask your friends for help with your cosplay! Especially if they know what they’re doing. No harm in asking. I can’t wait to see this collar when it is all done. It certainly is the “statement piece” of the outfit. I’m excited to see how it turns out.

I wasn’t able to head into the shop this week, but that didn’t stop me from working at home. We decided to get some pattern pieces done of the rest of the boot and my thigh.  We also made the Cyber man “pants.” How do you make patterns you ask? Any cosplayer will tell you all you need is a LOT of tape and some scissors. Yup, tape. You put the tape sticky side up around the thing you want a pattern of (In this case, the boot or my thigh) and then place tape sticky side down over that. Gently cut off the tape and you are done!

It looks pretty weird when it comes off you, but it works like a charm.  I know these pieces will fit because we used my body as reference. We only made a pattern for on leg and half the pants because you just make a reflection on the foam and you have the rest.  I know plenty of cosplays who have made armor patterns, corset patterns and plenty more with this useful hack.

Next week, I’m hoping to get more details done on the shoes and chest piece so we can start thinking about the corset. I’m getting close to having most of the big pieces done and then….. the devil is in the details.  Stay Mythic out there Geeks!

November 20-27 weeks left-12

Well, I knew I wasn’t gonna be able to get into the shop this week but I was determined on getting something done over this Thanksgiving holiday. What I didn’t know was that the universe had other plans for me. While I *wanted* to be able to finish the helmet, Cut out and assemble all of the chest pieces, get to work on figuring out lighting for the chest piece, and much more. I instead got sick with a cold. And a bad one at that. One that took me out of commission for several days including Thanksgiving. That’s right, no Thanksgiving dinner for me with family and friends. I was able to have leftovers, but I spent the majority of the time sleeping and trying to recover. I’m not 100% but I am on the mend.

That being said, in the short moments that I felt well enough I decided to try and get a little bit done with the construction of the Cyberman. I was able to fully assemble (without the pipe of course) the Cyberman helmet as well as cut out all of the ½ inch thick foam needed for the chest pieces. I’ve never dealt with so many play mats in my life! I’m really understanding how to cut foam now though. Definitely leveling up in that department.

As for the engraving of the circular Gallifreyan, I’ve sort of reached an impasse. The engraving tool that I thought would be better doesn’t really do much on the foam so I think I’m gonna be sticking with the woodburning tool to do all of the hard Gallifreyan in the chest pieces and arm and leg pieces. When it comes to the helmet however, the engravings are so small that I might just paint them on. It’s not worth possibly fully messing up the helmet in order to woodburn such small engravings and details onto it. I think this is a good compromise.

Anyway, I plan on getting so much more done this upcoming week and I do plan on going back into the shop. Wish me luck on my road to recovery and not falling too far behind in making this cyber man actually come to fruition. Thanks for reading and stay mythic out there geeks!
